Sunday’s Oscars

The overshadowed music genius: Lin-Manuel Miranda

The Academy Awards have been no stranger to mishaps, but Sunday’s Oscars will certainly stand out among all the others. However, I’m not talking about Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock, I’m talking about how, once again, the musical genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda has once again failed to impress the academy enough for him to earn his Oscar.

Miranda was nominated for the best original song category, the song being Dos Orugitas from Disney’s Encanto. Instead, the talented young artist, Billie Eilish, won the award for her Bond theme No Time To Die, which was used in the film of the same name. While it is upsetting for many fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Eilish certainly also gave an Oscar-worthy performance, and I am certain that Miranda will get another shot at his first Oscar soon.

When Miranda finally does win an Oscar, he will be the 17th person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, four of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry. He won his first Tony in 2008 for having the best original score for his musical In the Heights, his first Grammy in 2009 for music from the same musical, and his Emmy in 2014 for his outstanding original music and lyrics for his song Bigger!
