Bacon, eggs, and waffles replaced violins, cellos, violas, and basses at orchestra’s once a semester breakfast social Friday. Providing a free meal to orchestra members, the breakfast social required a little extra planning from the officers as they had to arrive at 7:30 a.m. to set up.

“I had to wake up at 6:00 a.m. to cook the tater tots but I believe that it was worth it for having such a delicious meal later,” orchestra officer Eliana Lainez Garcia said. “I believe the students gained new friends and connections within the orchestra and a free breakfast.

Orchestra has had this social for eight years, but this one was different as it was used to celebrate assistant orchestra director, Madison Wagggerman’s birthday. Orchestra director Julie Blackstock had asked the students to make Waggerman cards and donate money to get her a gift card to purchase art/craft supplies.

“It was really touching that she organized it and that students participated in writing me notes,” Waggerman said. “Notes are really special to me, so I will cherish all of the beautiful cards for years to come.”
