Red Ribbon Week recognized on campus
October 24, 2022
Red Ribbon week began in 1985 and is a symbol of commitment to raising awareness about drug abuse in America. The week takes place from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, and this year, there are new themes to encourage drug awareness on campus.
“We dress up for Red Ribbon week in order to bring awareness to saying no to drugs,” Student Council vice president senior Harley Classe said. “The themes are used as a fun way to get students involved in raising awareness.”
While students enjoy the dress-up themes, many also understand the importance the week holds.
“I do think dressing up is fun, but it’s not the most important part of the week,” junior Vibha Immedisetty said. “It is a good way to bring awareness, and I think it is important that we talk about it at school.”
This years themes range from hat day to a western theme.
Monday: Put a cap on drugs and wear a hat
Tuesday: Lei off drugs and wear Hawaiian
Wednesday: Wear red
Thursday: Too bright for drugs, wear neon
Friday: Give drugs the boot and wear Western
