Girls’ basketball team athletic trainers Kendi Kimball and Joseph White were presented with the Ben Hogan Sports Medicine award honored by UIL recognizing their work in training on Monday.

“We’re usually behind the scenes taking care of them,” Kimball said. “It’s nice to be honored for what we do behind because usually we don’t get the recognition that most people do with the amount of work we put in.”

The girls’ basketball team finished as the state runner-up after a 32-6 season. Trainers Kimball and White were alongside the players and coaches throughout the season.

“It’s cool to be part of their success,” White said. “We preach family in athletics and it’s just good to be part of a successful family.”

While the girls and the coaches constantly rely on the trainers for support, both Kimball and White believe taking care of the team is just another part of their job.

“It’s really the girls’ award,” Kimball said. “We didn’t do anything different.”

For both athletic trainers, making sure each player is healthy and able to play to her fullest ability is their first priority.

“We have actually made it throughout the entire season injury free,” White said. “That’s a testament to how much work they put in on the court and off the court.”
