Three Redhawks tennis players are state bound with senior Milla Dopson and sophomore Hailey Zhang winning girls’ doubles and senior Sanjheev Rao winning boys’ singles at the 5A Regional tournament. “I think we played really well together and are going to continue to work on our movement together and like just playing more aggressively and staying positive the entire time,” Zhang said.

The Redhawks tennis team served the competition at 5A Regionals Tuesday and Wednesday in Melissa, with senior Milla Dopson and sophomore Hailey Zhang winning girls’ doubles and senior Sanjheev Rao winning boys’ singles.

“We are very pleased with getting first, obviously, and also with our performance,” Zhang said. “I think we played really well together and are going to continue to work on our movement together and like just playing more aggressively and staying positive the entire time.”

With the win, Dopson, Zhang, and Rao will all be heading to state on April 25, and Rao is already looking forward to it.

“I won the tournament, pretty happy, but I need to focus on state while keeping the preparation and intensity the same,” Rao said. “I only have about a week left, so I will just continue my regular practice routines.”
