With the school year coming to a close on May 19, Wingspan is counting down the top sports moments from 2022-2023.

Coming in at #8, three Redhawks cross country runners, senior Andrew Jauregui, junior Sydni Wilkins, and freshman Srishti Shetty competed in the Texas UIL 5A State Championship meet in November with Wilkins and Shetty finishing 8th and 98th in the girls’ race and Jauregui finishing 72nd in the boys’ race.

“I went into state with the goal of getting top 20, so I was happy to exceed those expectations and finish 8th,” Wilkins said. “This season’s success was surprising considering that cross country was a completely new sport to me but it’s rewarding to place high at state because it shows all the hard work I put into this season.”

For Jauregui, this year marks the end, but he has strong hopes for the future of the program.

“It was a fun way to end my cross country years, I gave my best and was able to experience an amazing meet one last time,” Jauregui said. “I believe that the program is in good hands and I believe they can achieve some great stuff in the future.”
