  • Three Redhawk runners, senior Andrew Jauregui (shown middle above), junior Sydni Wilkins (shown second to the left above), and freshman Srishti Shetty headed to the Texas UIL 5A State Championship meet on Saturday. They made their mark with an 8th place finish by Wilkins along with a 72nd place finish by Jauregui and 98th for Shetty.

  • Sydni Wilkins medaled with an eighth place finish at the state competition. “This season’s success was surprising considering that cross country was a completely new sport to me but it’s rewarding to place high at state because it shows all the hard work I put into this season,” Wilkins said.

  • Srishti Shetty running in the Girls 5A Division, and finishing at 98th place. “I was happy with my results, but I know that I can only grow from here, so I’m ready to compete and hopefully achieve my goals next year,” Shetty said.

  • Senior Andrew Jauregui shown in the middle above competed in his final state meet and placed 72nd. “It was a fun way to end my cross country years, I gave my best and was able to experience an amazing meet one last time,” Jauregui said.

Three Redhawks, senior Andrew Jauregui, junior Sydni Wilkins, and freshman Srishti Shetty competed in the Texas UIL 5A State Championship meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park where Wilkins and Shetty finished 8th and 98th, respectively, in the girls’ race and Jauregui finished 72nd in the boys’ race,

“The kids left their all on Saturday and that’s we’re proud of what they accomplished as they could only run for individual accolades,” coach Khera Vay said. “This was a memorable year with all that the team accomplished throughout the season and it was all because of the hard work and dedication that they put in.”

Wilkins continued her dominance in the last of the year and earned a top 10 finish, the best finish by a Frisco ISD girl, in her first appearance at state.

“I went into state with the goal of getting top 20, so I was happy to exceed those expectations and finish 8th,” Wilkins said. “This season’s success was surprising considering that cross country was a completely new sport to me but it’s rewarding to place high at state because it shows all the hard work I put into this season.”

Shetty was able to find a spot at state’s as a freshman, but nerves were a big factor for her on Saturday.

“It was really nerve-wracking but exciting to compete at such a big meet,” Shetty said. “I was happy with my results, but I know that I can only grow from here, so I’m ready to compete and hopefully achieve my goals next year.”

At the other end of the high school sports spectrum, Jauregui made his way to his second consecutive state meet, bringing his Redhawks cross country career to a close.

“It was a fun way to end my cross country years, I gave my best and was able to experience an amazing meet one last time,” Jauregui said. “I believe that the program is in good hands and I believe they can achieve some great stuff in the future.”
