Softball has been eliminated from the playoffs following consecutive losses to Lone Star in a best-of-three series.
The Redhawks posted a .324 batting average, .439 OBP, and one home run in the first game of the series, played Thursday at The Nest, but couldn’t overcome the Rangers’ .410 batting average, .531 OBP and trio of home runs. That ultimately led to them falling 16-10 in seven innings.
“I’m really proud of this team,” assistant coach Gabrielle Buruato said. “They worked hard all season long on and off the pitch to exceed expectations. It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but I’m proud of where we got to in the end.”
The second game continued that trend, with the team being run-ruled 10-0 in four innings on the road Friday after notching a .167 batting average and .286 OBP, compared to Lone Star’s .440 batting average and .464 OBP.
With all but two athletes returning for next season, freshman Shelsy Duran expects them to be able to replicate this season’s success.
“It was a really big accomplishment for us to get here with such a young team,” Duran said. “We’re going to keep working hard and keep improving during the offseason so that we’re ready for next season.”
