After four months of competition, the wrestling season came to a close at the state meet, held Friday and Saturday at the Berry Center in northwest Houston. Two of the four Redhawk wrestlers competing in the event secured podium finishes, with seniors Dani Banks and Angel Machiri placing second and fourth in the 190-pound and 235-pound weight classes, respectively.
“Our athletes concluded their season with exceptional performance and demonstrated remarkable determination,” head wrestling coach Justin Koons said. “It was a truly memorable and enjoyable season.”
According to Machiri, the experience is bittersweet.
“It was good to make it to state again but it was also kind of sad since it was my last wrestling match,” Machiri said. “Overall, we’ve had a great season and I’m very proud of my teammates.”
