Regional finals are up next for the boys’ soccer team as their historic playoff run continues. This round, they head to Kuykendall Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to challenge Wakeland.
The Wolverines are considered a powerhouse in high school soccer, having won state titles in 2010, 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022. Along the way, they have thwarted numerous attempts by the Redhawks to advance in the playoffs. However, even though his team has not beaten Wakeland since 2014, assistant coach Kyle Parks said they remain undaunted.
“We’re gonna try to focus on what we can control,” Parks said. “That’s attitude, focus and effort. We want to play our own game, but they’re going to be a tough challenge.”
Sophomore Sean Fraser said the mission remains the same for the team despite a historically strong opponent.
“We’ve been preparing for a game like this one all season and we’re more than ready to compete,” Fraser said. “Regardless of their reputation, we see it as just another game to play hard in, come out with a win, and have fun.”
UPDATE:
A record-breaking season that is sure to remembered for years to come came to a close Tuesday when the boys’ soccer team lost 2-0 to Wakeland in the area finals at Kuykendall Stadium.
