Friday marks the beginning of district play for volleyball as they take on Emerson. “We are just better all around than Emerson,” senior MJ McCurdy said.

Redhawk volleyball flies into their first game of District 10-5A play Friday at Emerson starting at 5:30 p.m.

“We have set some goals for ourselves on our hitting percentage and the amount of blocks we want, and the amount of aces we want,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “Make sure we’re focused on our side of the net only more than anything.”

The defending district champions, the Redhawks hope to get the same results this year.

“We are just better all around than Emerson,” senior MJ McCurdy said. “They do not have much depth, so our offensive options will be much better than theirs.”

For McCurdy, the start of districts is bittersweet as it means her time as a high school athlete is coming to an end.

“Heading into my last first district game, it is definitely bittersweet,” she said. “I am excited for this season because we are going to do so well, but it’s sad that it is my senior season.”
