The AP Physics field trip to Six Flags Over Texas was canceled at the last minute when the group arrived at the amusement park only to find it was closed due to a power outage.

After the students and teachers arrived on school buses, they were asked to leave since the park was closed. The group had previously planned to spend the day incorporating physics into their time at the amusement park. Instead the group went to Grapevine Mills Mall for lunch before returning to campus.

AP Physics 1, 2 and C students had grouped up to complete assignments. Tasks would have included measuring roller coaster accelerations, centripetal forces and work.

The field trip would have allowed the students to take a break from the traditional classroom setting and served as a reward for surviving the year-long AP courses.

“It’s really disappointing that it got cancelled because we have all been looking forward to this trip since the first day of physics,” junior Luana Miranda said in a text message. “But at least Six Flags is going to match the ticket so we’ll get one for free.”
