Starting District 10-5A play on Tuesday, the softball team dropped it’s opening game 4-2 to Emerson. Next up for the team, the Big Cat Tournament in Commerce.

Redhawk softball soared above competition on Thursday last week, topping the Lake Dallas Falcons 11-0, and taking home their first win of the season.

“I’m really happy about how we played, I’m a lot more optimistic about this season after that,” assistant coach Tiffany Thayer said. “We didn’t have a lot of balls to defend, but the ones we did have we had amazing catches, Cat [Bull Calf] had an amazing catch in right field, Delila [Bond] had a great catch, and Addison [Hanson] pitched lights out.”

Recovering from the loss of their last game against Reedy High School, softball was able to clean up their game and sweep the Falcons in five innings.

“We took a lot of the mistakes from the Reedy game, talked over them, practiced them, and we learned how to communicate with each other better, so we’ve eliminated all of our mental errors,” Thayer said.

The girls agreed that they were able to improve from their loss and aim to continue this recovery throughout the season.

“We were definitely more aware when bases were loaded,” senior Catalina Bull Calf said. “Although we didn’t execute every time, we still strung our hits together and we didn’t let the game affect us.”

Energy on the field was  a big factor in the Redhawks’ win according to Bull Calf.

”I feel like we had really good energy, we were a lot more hype and uplifting. I think our confidence really helped this game,” she said. “We just need to stay like that going forward in the season.”
