AP Economics students are heading to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas to explore a hands-on version of economics in the real world on Tuesday. The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, sometimes called “The Fed,” is a part of the Federal Reserve System and is one of twelve in the U.S.
“I found just for myself, looking at all the curriculum and the course material–it can be quite dry and abstract, or even boring to put it bluntly,” AP Economics teacher Michael Kouznetsov said. “So I was like, how do I make this more engaging and hands-on? And I was like, well, I know Dallas has a Federal Reserve Bank. I go to the website, I look, do they do field trips. Lo and behold, they do! And one thing led to another and I was like, we’re gonna do this!”
This field trip aims to display economics on a local level for students.
Senior, Anushka Bhave shows her excitement, “It’s going to be interesting to go on the field trip and learn more about how that whole system works on a local level because we’re going to the Dallas Federal,” senior Anushka Bhave said. “I think it’s really nice to be able to actually see what we’re doing, because like graphs can only tell you so much, like going there in person will I think help me see how the whole system works better.”
To get ready for Tuesday’s field trip, students have been preparing for this trip with a research project.
“We’ve been learning a lot about economic policy and fiscal policy,” senior Sheen Saxena said. “So we’ve been doing a research project about it, so I’m excited to see that in real life.”
