After competing in the District 11-5 A round of UIL Academic Competition on March 29, students who qualified for regionals are gearing up for the chance at state Friday and Saturday at Prosper’s Walnut Grove High School.
“Students have been practicing going through practice tests during advisory, also during class, if it covers the material that they’re in,” accounting coach Courtney Benson said. “Like my accounting students have been going through old tests that cover what they’re currently doing in accounting in the past. So they will study during class as well.”
19 students will represent The Nest this weekend covering all categories from mathematics, science, social studies, and writing.
Competing for her first time competing at the UIL regions level, senior Christine Han is confident in her abilities.
“I’m doing editorial writing which I pretty much do every week so I’m trying not to freak myself out about it,” Han said. “I’m just going to do my best and make sure I remember all that I’ve learned.”
Students who advance at regionals will move on to compete at State at the University of Texas at Austin on May 19-20.
“They all do so well, I feel like I don’t have to give them advice,” Benson said. “You know, they go in and they know what to do and how to perform and how to prepare. We’re there for moral support for anything.”
