GT Humanities freshmen are bringing literature to life through a creative mural project. Students are working in literature circles to design murals based on the books they’ve been reading.
“The goal of the mural project is for the students to have a creative way to capture what they are learning about their lit-circle books,” GT teacher Elizabeth Evans said. “In humanities we always try to combine different mediums together, that way they are thinking about the purpose of art, of public art, and also getting a creative way to capture the themes, characterization, symbols in their lit books.”
Students collaborate with their group members to plan, sketch, and create their murals during class time.
“Making a mural helps me understand my book better, by making me think about how the symbolism relates to the themes of the book.” freshman Tanisha Ahmed said. “For example, the bracelets she gets in one of the poems, it made me think about what the bracelets represent in the story.”
