Students in AP Seminar are working on a project on their own individual research questions with new techniques learned from previous activities.
Students are focused on creating an individual project where they find evidence from multiple sources to identify a theme, and explain their own research question.
According to teacher Ryan Houston, this project helps students think outside the box and develop their critical thinking skills.
“They’re just trying to connect the theme of what’s going on through there, and then they have to stem a research question based off of what that theme is and trying to connect at least two of those resources back into their paper and then answer a research question that they came up with,” Houston said.
Some students, such as sophomore Colin Farias, are focusing on how people find social connection and moral guidance in today’s society.
“My research question is: “To what extent are religious institutions being replaced by secular spaces as sources of social connection and moral guidance in the United States?,” Farias said. “Basically, it’s exploring how churches and synagogues and mosques are becoming less important as social gathering and moral guidance as the world is becoming increasingly secular.”
