Since the industrial revolution, technology and a lot of other things have advanced greatly. We have plenty of new ways to do things, like playing music. Back then, people had telegrams; now we have radios and Spotify at the click of a button!
Because we have more advanced ways of doing things, that also goes for food harvesting and production. Factories play a part in producing many kinds of foods.
Unfortunately, most snacks, ingredients, etc that come from factories are not always the best because they involve preservatives and some other chemicals that aren’t very healthy.
Preservatives are a substance that is included in these packages to prevent the item from going bad too fast. It’s always important to make sure your food is well-preserved but are these kinds of chemicals really needed? It just makes the food feel…fake.
A lot of people choose to turn away from snacks like this. And despite me typing out how it can be unhealthy for you, I ironically don’t care! I’m just happy eating the snacks and stuff I feel familiar with. I shouldn’t have to worry about very small things like that because I’m still maintaining a healthy weight, diet and exercise routine, so… I really dont worry about it too much.
The same goes with foods that belong in the high FODMAP category. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically carbohydrates that the small intestine can have trouble absorbing, causing some digestion problems. Some foods that belong in this category are wheat products, asparagus, watermelon, cow milk, etc.
Those with digestive problems are recommended to go on a temporary low FODMAP diet by their doctors to figure out what foods are triggering their issues. It can feel limiting if something that has high FODMAP is included in most of the things you eat.
That’s how it felt for me. I’m a picky eater so I like to stick to foods that are familiar to me. If it’s restricted then what am I supposed to do?
It’s all mostly because of that. My picky eating and will to live just pushes away the need to care about those kinds of things every single day. Obviously there are some foods that I would avoid if they make me feel bad or if the chemical is too suspicious to eat, but most of the time, I just don’t have a care in the world. Let me eat and live how I please!
