Specifically among the underclassmen on campus, there is an absurd amount of academic dishonesty. People ask their friends about test material before they take it, people fabricate their essays with ChatGPT, people make decoy phones to put in the cell phone caddy before their tests, and frankly, this is embarrassing.
Everyone seems to think that successfully cheating on an assignment is something to brag about, so they go and tell all their friends that their teacher didn’t notice them sneaking their phone underneath their privacy folder to Google the answer. People make it out to be some big achievement, when really you’re risking not only your academic reputation, but also your own intelligence.
Not knowing the material enough to be tested on it is not cool, it’s not funny, and it’s not quirky. I’ll admit that sometimes finding motivation to study for an upcoming test is hard, but losing some time out of your day to study is 100% worth the good grade. Cheating however, is not worth the penalty when you get caught.
It’s absurd that instead of putting effort into studying your topic, you’re channeling that energy into finding a way to successfully cheat. It’s more work to not get caught than it is to pay attention in class and study.
You’re not going to learn anything if you’re cheating on everything. While the people who were honest are living their best life, working a job they love, and getting paid bigtime for it, you’re going to be stuck working at a fast food place for the rest of your life, still living with your parents.
What happens if you get into college by cheating? What happens when you don’t know anything you’re supposed to know when you’re in college? What happens if you try and get through college the same way you got through highschool? What happens when you get caught?
You’re expelled. That’s what happens. People need to learn that you can’t get through life by cheating. It’s gonna come back to bite you. Stop cheating. It’s embarrassing, it’s not a good look, and being dumb is not cool.
