This week, marking the first full week of school, is the perfect time to start creating habits that will motivate you. Whether these habits include getting enough rest every night, keeping up with homework, or attending class daily, starting strong now can set the tone for the rest of your year.
Here are a few things I’m doing to settle in (that you should try too):
- Find your focus times
Most people would describe themselves as night owls or early birds, yet few apply these ideas to school or productivity. Pay attention to when you feel the most energized throughout the day (morning, afternoon, or evening) and use that time to knock off your most complex assignments. For instance, if you refer to yourself as a night owl, prioritize rest in the morning and do schoolwork late at night.
- Stay on top of deadlines
It is incredibly easy to procrastinate sometimes, and although things might seem slow now, if you don’t have strong habits from the beginning, assignments, tests, and quizzes are bound to pile up. To prevent this, use a physical or digital planner, a calendar, or a notes app.
- Build healthy habits outside of school
Although sometimes school feels like consuming your life, it is essential to remember the importance of building healthy habits outside of studying. Don’t forget to drink water, eat healthy and balanced meals, and get some movement every week (even in the unbearable Texas heat).
- Celebrate the small things
Not every milestone has to be huge. Sometimes, even finishing the first week of school feels like an accomplishment. So remember to reward yourself and recognize the progress you’ve made.
I hope you try some of these tips and settle in smoothly into this first week!
