Tickets for The Star hard to come by

The opening of The Star could be another attraction that draws visitors from out of the area.

The opening of The Star could be another attraction that draws visitors from out of the area.

With the big football season kick off at The Star on Saturday, students who did not purchase tickets when they went on sale this summer, are scrambling to find a way to see the 2016 season opener. But with both sessions sold-out, tickets are limited.

“The only way to get tickets through the district is through the stand-by list,” FISD special projects manager Brent Reese said. “There are secondary markets out there such as Stub Hub, but there is no way to tell if that ticket is valid.”

Because tickets were sold in sessions, not individual games, seats may be left empty if ticket holders choose not to attend a certain game.

“The purpose of the 4 games is to allow all varsity football teams and student participants (band, cheer, drill team) the opportunity to play in the Star kick off,” Reese said. “With 4 games, the only way to fit those games in was to build it into sessions (like the UIL does for the state basketball tournament) as well as plan for very limited parking.”

Many students who weren’t able to obtain a ticket to the opening game, are upset at the way the ticket situation was handled.

“You know I am enraged that I didn’t get a ticket, this is my team that I wanted to support at the star game,” junior Sisi Simo said. “And these other random people were able to get them instead, because they wanted to see the new stadium that the Cowboys won’t even be in.”

Not only are students disappointed at the lack of tickets, but even some staff members are wishing that the student section would be bigger.

“I know we have a lot of students who will not be able to be at the opening game this Saturday at The Star against Wakeland,” Principal Scott Warstler said. “Unfortunately there was presale that went on over the course of the summer that sold out much more quickly than anyone thought they would. Right now there isn’t anything anyone can do to gain those tickets, we did have a waiting list that the district had put out and emailed, we had about 180 people on the waiting list and I think we were only able to give about 80 tickets to those folks, so as of now it is sold out. It’s nice that it’s a sell out but I hate the fact that for our opening game at The Star, we won’t have a true student section.”

Although people are unhappy that they won’t be attending the opening game, there is hope for them attending a different game later in the season.

“I am a student that goes to this school and my team is playing but I can’t watch them,” Simo said. “But at least I know we will be able to play at The Star later on in the season.”
