Unfortunately, I have spent practically all weekend sick with the worst throat pain I have ever experienced. For the past 2-3 days, all I’ve really been able to do is sleep and eat. Now, for the average person, this seems like a great thing, but for me, who loves constantly working on something, it’s been super frustrating. While I’m lying in bed thinking about all of the work I could be doing, the homework and tests pile up, and I feel guilty for not doing more, yet I know I can’t.
I remember when I was little, I would do anything to get to stay home away from school, but now, being sick feels like falling behind on everything at once. You want to rest, but unfortunately, responsibilities and assignments don’t rest with you, and that’s where the stress comes in.
The truth is, no matter how much you want to push yourself and complete the huge pile of assignments, recovery has to come first. While I’m sick, I constantly remind myself that putting off a few assignments is not going to be the end of the world and that taking time to rest is what actually gets you back on track faster.
So, if you’re sick this week, don’t let school stress keep you from healing. Get some sleep, drink water, eat plenty of healthy, nutritious food, and deal with the assignments later.
