Girls cross country competed in its first meet, the Plano Invitational on Saturday. After the FISD Invitational meet was canceled do to rain, the team worked even harder to secure their first win of the season.

“They did get first and I really hoped and expected that going in because they’ve been training so well going into the first meet, so they did as well as I’d hoped for.” head cross country coach Amanda Byers said.

The team spent the two weeks since the FISD Invitational was to take place, doing what they could to be ready.

“We really hit it hard and everybody is just at the top of their game.” varsity runner Kendall Rose said. “We were kind of expecting a successful weekend, we weren’t sure if it was going to be as successful as it was, but the first place win was definitely an accomplishment.”

The team expects big things for the remainder of the season, and are hoping to see a lot more from their two new team members.

“We have two new runners,” Rose said. “One from a different school and an incoming freshman, Amelia, are really strong, and also girls that came back from last year that came back really strong and I came back really strong as well.”
