The first iPhone came out in 2007, and it featured a three and a half inch touchscreen and was designed to be a combination of an iPod, a phone, and a web browser. Since then, Apple has released a new phone every year, updating things like the camera, messaging app, the hardware of the phone, and the overall style of the phone.
However in recent years, the phones being released have felt less and less different from the last, making it feel more like a money and publicity thing rather than an improvement thing.
Lately, the only valuable update of the phones has been the camera. Obviously a good camera is important, especially with the technological advancements we have access to, but it seems like that’s the only thing the company is putting any thought into.
Not only is the software of the phone not getting better, but with the quality of the camera increasing, so is the size of the camera. The size of the camera and how it makes the phone look visually on its own is enough to make me not want to buy it because frankly, it looks ugly.
Of course, the most important part of a phone is not whether or not it’s aesthetically pleasing, but it definitely contributes to the decision of whether or not to purchase.
Additionally, things have been getting more and more inconvenient with Apple products. The change they made with the charging port on the iPhone 15 caused a lot of issues due to people not having the right cable. It feels like all my products use a different charger.
The new phones are not even high quality either. They’re getting thinner and easier to break just by dropping it.
The last good iPhone made was the iPhone 11. It was the last time they made changes other than the camera shape, they got rid of the home button, and the color selection was absolutely impeccable.
There’s too much wrong with the recent phones to have any reason whatsoever to buy one. It’s one thing if it’s ugly or fragile or if the color selection is bad, but all three put together makes it really hard to see any benefits of purchasing one.
It’s time for Apple to take a break from making phones. They’re either running out of things to improve, or they’re just not putting very much thought into anything other than the camera. They should instead maybe focus on something else like bringing back iPods or updating watches or AirPods.
