Rain didn’t stop choir from taking things outside Saturday as they sang the national anthem before the the FC Dallas game at Toyota Stadium.

“I think it shows people out in the community who we are and what we’re doing,” choir director Bruce Stevenson said.  “The fact that we’re out there in the community doing things for their enrichment and their enjoyment puts us out on a big map.”

Singing in front of an estimated crowd of more than 13,000 fans, it was the the first time choir performed in front of such a large audience.

“I felt pretty nervous at first,” senior Kirsten Mallari said. “It was the first time the choir ever sang outside of our occasional concerts at school and UIL. “It was a fun experience that was nice to have especially with me being a senior.”

Submitting an audition tape in March, there was no guarantee the group would be chosen, but after Saturday’s performance, Stevenson hopes for another invitation.

“It was a ton of fun,” Stevenson said. “We had a great response from the FC Dallas people and wanting us to come back soon.”
