Shreya Jagan, Managing Editor

I know there’s been one topic on everyone’s minds lately. And the same goes for my family; they’ve been glued to their screens for the past two days. Now, I don’t want to get too political here but I just thought it’d be nice to delve into some of my thoughts (which are very scattered).

In times like these, we need to be united. It’s important that we figure out where we stand on certain issues: equality, women’s and general human rights, racism, and so much more.

I know that whatever the outcome may be, there will be people that will be angered and disappointed regardless. But, we need to maintain our principles. We can’t change our morals because of who is elected president. This is the most important time for us to be united. It’s even in the name: the United States of America. So, why don’t we hold onto that through these stressful times?

There are some stances that I agree and some that I disagree with. There are people that I support and people that I don’t support. But, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, so let’s be civil about it. We can do at least that, can’t we? I think that’s something that all of us should learn how to do; the President included. As long as we’re taking a step, even a small step, in the right direction, then I think there’s still hope for us yet.

And, this may just be one of the most important elections in history, and it’s obviously been the most watched and followed. Even people that usually don’t care for politics have been tuning in. No matter who wins this election, we’re the only ones that are going to be affected. So, let’s focus on making all this worth it instead of spreading hate and causing unrest.

We need a president that brings harmony into our society.

A president that is against xenophobia.

A president that believes in human rights.

A president that is respectful and caring.

And I’m hoping that we’re able to witness that change in this year’s election.
