Seniors from the boys’ varsity soccer team pose together after their 4-0 win against the Colony High School.

The girls’ and boys’ soccer team will take on Lone Star at Toyota Stadium Friday night for their regular season finales. The number nine in the area girls’ team is coming off of a 3-2 win over number five Centennial without goalkeeper Reagan Ridlehuber, who was sent off within the first 20 minutes of the match. Playing with 10 girls, Madi Timmons led the team with two goals, which pushed the team to victory.

Playoffs always makes me nervous because you never know when it’s going to be your last game. Especially now that I’m a senior I want to make it last as long as possible, so I’m hoping for the best this year.

“I would have to say that in my coaching career, it was up there in the top 5 wins I have had,” head coach Cissy Blaisure said. “The fact that they were in first place all year, and they had only lost one game going into that game, and it was senior night, and the fact that we had lost to them 4-1 previously this year, and we came out and lost our goalie 20 minutes into the game due to a violation and having to play a man down, it was absolutely huge for us to be able to be up 3-0 at one point. The win against Centennial has to be, easily, in the top five in my career.”

With a playoff spot clinched, the team will play Prosper (20-2) in the first round of playoffs. Last year, the team played against the eventual state champion Wylie East in the 1st round, losing 3-1.

Playoffs always makes me nervous because you never know when it’s going to be your last game,” senior captain Jessi Long. “Especially now that I’m a senior I want to make it last as long as possible, so I’m hoping for the best this year. Prosper will be a tough team to play but I have a good feeling about this game and how all of us girls have been playing together lately.”

It’s almost a mirror situation for the boys’ team. Their 2-1 win over Centennial over spring break clinched a playoff berth for the team, who have had a roller coaster of a season.

I love every guy on this team. We’ve all played for many years together and all I want to see from our team is to succeed because they’re my family.

“Glad we were able to clinch it now, so we have less stress on Friday,” head coach Fred Kaiser said. “I still expect to do good things on Friday evening, but it’s good to have our spot set. We’re still determining seeds, so Friday is still important, but it’s good to be in.”

The team will look to clinch third place with a win tonight. With a win, the team will be playing McKinney North, who the team played last season and defeated 2-1. A loss would push the team to fourth place, matching them up with McKinney, who are 16-2-4 on the season, and are ranked seventh in the DMN Area rankings.

Well first of all now there is more expected of us now that we are in playoffs,” senior defender Payam Zamhariri said. “Thinking of playoffs brings great amounts of mixed emotions due to the fact that I have to think about being determined to win and also being sad having the slight thought that with one loss my high school career is done forever. I love every guy on this team, we’ve all played for many years together and all I want to see from our team is to succeed because they’re my family. We’re going to go in and make sure we play our hearts out for one another to make this year’s playoffs the most memorable to us yet.”
