Plans to defend The Nest fell through for the baseball team on Thursday as they dropped a non-district game 7-4 against the Greenville High School Lions.

“The boys played decent, there were times where we should’ve capitalized on but didn’t,” head coach Scott McGarrh said. “We played hard and competed with them, but some mistakes really hurt us in the end.”

The Redhawks also celebrated Senior Night on Thursday, playing all 13 seniors on the team and giving them the spotlight.

“It was a great night, the pregame ceremony was a lot of fun and the night itself was special for all of us,” senior Cooper Wixon said. “Getting the win against Greenville would’ve made the night even better, but I’m still appreciative of the night with the guys.”

Despite the loss, the Redhawks are looking to bounce back on the road Tuesday against the Independence Knights at 7:30 p.m. and move up in the District 10-5A standings.

“Independence is a very good team that’s well coached and focuses on a small ball type of play,” McGarrh said. “They’ll be trying to run the bases as much as possible, so we need to try and execute well overall, and get outs when they’re given to us.”
