Three Redhawks tennis players, senior Sanjheev Rao, senior Milla Dopson, and sophomore Hailey Zhang are representing the school at the UIL 5A state tournament Tuesday and Wednesday in San Antonio.

“The competition is much tougher this year than last year, but the goals are the same,” Rao said. “I’m going to play to win by putting the maximum intensity and leaving everything on the court. I’m excited for what this tournament has to hold and looking forward to making some memories.”

Last year, Rao and Dopson became the first team in Frisco ISD history to win a mixed doubles championship. But this year, Rao is playing boys’ singles while Dopson and Zhang are teaming up in girls’ doubles. Despite this, Dopson is hoping to come out on top again.

“We are hoping to put in our best effort and work really hard to try to win state,” Dopson said. “Being a senior has been really hard in all of this because this will probably be my last tournament ever. I am very excited and hope that I can have my last match be a win.”

Zhang appeared at state for the first time last year, and she aims for a win this time around.

“I really hope that we play well and come out with the win and also that we have a lot of fun while we’re over there,” Zhang said. “We’ve been practicing really hard everyday and I’m confident that we will do well.”
