Ten track and field Redhawks head into a busy end of the week as they head to UT Arlington for the 5A Regional II meet Friday and Saturday.

“At this point in time of the season like team wise it’s kind of separated out and it’s more so a bunch of individuals,” head coach Khera Vay said. “I think everybody’s kind of objective at Regionals is to make it to finals on Saturday, and then just go run their best.”

Running in the 3200, junior Sydni Wilkins is hoping to accomplish personal goals on Friday.

“I’m hoping to PR and just feel good about my race after,” Wilkins said. “There’s gonna be a lot of fast girls competing today so I think they will definitely push me.”

State is on the line for the Redhawks, but Vay believes each athlete should embrace the experience at Regionals.

“You have to be in the top two to make it to state or get a third place spot that would give them a provisional,” Vay said. “So obviously at this point in time this season, it’s all about performing their very best and just embracing the opportunity and the experience.”
