The Redhawks cross country team got their 2024 season underway with a two-mile run Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at Warren Park.
Although the Redhawks did not have any notable finishes in their meet, head coach Khera Vay believes that is besides the point for the start of the season.
“The meet went well [and the] athletes handled the adversity of the heat and the challenging footing on the course like champions,” Vay said. “We have some work to do to be where we want to be, but I always say it’s better to run fast in October during Championship Season than run fast in August and be disappointed in October.”
For junior Sofia Golladay, the time and pace of the meet made it an experience to remember.
“It’s called the Twilight Meet because we run really late at night,” Golladay said. “It was also different [from our other meets] because we only ran two miles instead of a 5K.”
