Shooting a 652 over two days at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson was good enough for the girls’ golf team to take second place in the District 9-5A tournament Monday and Tuesday. The Redhawks join District 9-5A champion Lebanon Trail in the 5A Region II tournament Monnday.

After finishing in second place in the District 9-5A tournament, the girls’ golf team is competing in the 5A Region II tournament at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club Monday and Tuesday.

The primary goal for the team is to make it back to state, but according to head coach Shannon Glidwell, just getting to the regional tournament was challenging.

“We have faced the most difficult hurdle, which was advancing from District 9-5A, which was a stronger field than what we will see at regionals,” he said via email. “That said, there are still several good teams and we will need a strong two days of golf to advance to state. The players are excited and ready to compete.”

To get to state, the team will have to finish in the top three over two days of play.

“We’re trying to be really focused mentally on playing smart and conservative,” senior Lizzy Stone said. “I personally am focusing on playing competitively and confidently because that’s when I start to score well.”
