“In high school you get a boyfriend. That’s just how it is.”

Wow. I wish that were the case.

I’ve been super lucky and have been in a relationship with the same boy for the last three years since the start of the summer after eighth grade.

In reality, relationships take a lot of work and more times than not they end when couples start to shift out of the honeymooning phase.

I had shown the class pictures from my senior homecoming a few weeks prior, so they were familiar with the fact that I had a boyfriend.

I don’t really remember the exact circumstance for this quote, but I do know that my kids were asking me a lot about my personal life. One kid even made the comment to me that they “thought I was a woman.” Oh, am I not? I must be confused. Those kids crack me up.

For some reason, they love asking these kinds of questions. They were all talking about how all high schoolers have a significant other.

They all still live in that state of bliss where everything is all rainbows and butterflies, but in third grade, that’s just how it is.
