“I took an illy ***y test today.”

Don’t you just hate it when you have a really hard test? I know I do. Believe it or not, in this case, the student was actually taking a really easy test.

Spelling.

It is a hard concept for a young mind to turn the words in their head into words on paper.

A lot of the time, one of the most asked questions I get from my students is how to spell a certain word.

Oftentimes, I usually respond by having them try and sound it out for me. When I do this, I find that they are usually pretty close and only missed a letter or two. I have found that this helps build their confidence in writing.

However, sometimes the kids have a little bit too much confidence and tend to guess the spelling of a word that ends up being way off of what it is supposed to be.

In this case, what was described as an “illy ***y” test was actually meant to be described as a really easy test.

Sometimes, you just have to laugh when this happens and hope that none of the kids catch on.

Spelling is a hard concept. It takes time to learn. Even I am still learning. That’s just how it is.
