Frisco ISD’s CTE Center is holding an introduction meeting for students interested in Mock Trial Tryouts Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In addition to learning more information about Mock Trial at the meeting, students will also get access to the case packet which contains all the information about the witnesses the students can embody.
“Students who are interested in trying out for the CTE mock trial team will be given a link at the information meeting to the case packet we will be using,” attorney advisor Ernest Leonard said. “The student should then choose one of the witnesses on the plaintiff’s side and thoroughly review that witness’s statement, as well the exhibits referenced in the statement.”
The introduction meeting is mandatory for students interested in participating in tryouts on Aug. 29-31.
“At the informational meeting the coaches go through how the team works, how the process works, why people should join,” senior Maya Silberman said. “We usually have a big turn out so a majority of the meeting is just parents asking questions and students asking how the team works.”
Leonard believes preparation and repetition will ensure that students trying out for Mock Trial are successful.
“Read the material over and over again until you know it thoroughly,” Leonard said. “You need to be prepared for any question that the examining student attorney throws at you. That is the key to success in mock trials and real trials – preparation, preparation, preparation.”
Adding members to the team is something junior Christine Han is looking forward to.
“It’s always great when we get new people on the team,” junior Christine Han said. “We like to maintain talent so when we send off seniors we always have new students who fill those spots. Tryouts are always a fun time because with returning members we like to sharpen our new skills for the new position we’re trying out for.”
