Girls basketball came off a win against Memorial, who many consider their district rivals. They will play Centennial Monday.

The defending state champions are back and ready for the 2023-2024 basketball season as the girls’ basketball starts their season Friday when they take on Panther Creek, followed by North Forney Saturday.

“I mean I want our kids to have fun, play loose, [and] obviously win the next few,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “You know the things we have spoken about really, we just have some kids who are gonna be new to the court getting more comfortable in their positions.”

Playing on the U.S. 2023 FIBA Women’s U16 America Championship over the summer, sophomore Jacy Abii is excited for the start of the new season.

“I’m excited to see our team in action,” Abii said. “And excited to give our family a fun little show.”

The team has seven returning varsity members and will look to incorporate several newcomers as quickly as possible as they face off against a team they’ve never played in Panther Creek.

“You know not having a ton of information on them [will be hard],” Reedy said. “You know it’s a team we have never faced, but I would say some of that is gonna be the same for them too.”
