They knew this day would come, since the first round of playoffs, the Redhawks knew they were bound to play Frisco foe Wakeland, the state’s top ranked 5A team. That day has arrived, as the Redhawks volleyball team takes on Wakeland Tuesday at Rock Hill High School at 5:30 p.m.
“We have been practicing rotations and keys to win for the game so we can come out very strong,” junior Andrea Juneau said. “We knew we were gonna play them so we have been preparing for that.”
Last year the Redhawks were knocked out of the playoffs by Wakeland in the same round. The team has played Wakeland twice this year and came out of both with losses.
“We are not nervous, we played them in the past we did have two of our big dogs out,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “So I think it’ll be a different game tonight. I think they’re really excited to see what our team looks like against them.”
But the Redhawks are still heading into the game with some confidence and ready to put it all on the line.
“Obviously I’m a little nervous because it is somebody’s last game tonight,” senior Gabbi Fasciano said. “But I’m more excited to get the chance to compete and potentially move on in playoffs.”
Even if they win Tuesday, the road to state won’t get any easier as the team’s next opponent will either be the state’s #9 team Lovejoy or Forney.
“Yeah we definitely have a tough region,” Dobbins said. “The good news is we have seen both of those teams with the same thing as Wakeland, we didn’t have two of our girls against Lovejoy. So it’s just nice that they haven’t really seen us completely and we have seen them completely, so the girls are look[ing] forward to it.”
