Wingspan’s featured athlete for 12/14 is varsity soccer player, senior Maci White.

Wingspan: When and why did you start playing soccer?

White: “I started playing soccer when I was three years old. I started playing because my parents made me. I played almost every single sport when I was little, but soccer was the only sport I really loved and stuck to.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about soccer?

White: “My favorite part about soccer is the bonds and relationships I have created over the years with coaches and teammates. I have met so many people that have truly changed my life and have made me the person I am today.”

Wingspan: Who has been your biggest inspiration?

White: “My biggest inspiration is my older sister Ally. She has played soccer her whole life as well and played at a D1 school. Not only does she inspire me to do my best in soccer, she inspires me to be a better person.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?

White: “My biggest supporter is definitely my mom. I don’t even remember the last time my mom has ever missed even one of my games. She supports me through all my accomplishments and hardships, and is willing to do anything for me.”

Wingspan: What has soccer taught you?

White: “Soccer has taught me a lot of discipline. With conditioning and eating right, it is a crucial part to stay fit and healthy. I also have to give up other activities and it leads to less time away from friends and family. It is definitely a hard balance to keep up with all of these things and school on top of that, but over time I have really learned to stay on track and balance out all of these things nicely.”

Wingspan: What are your goals for this season?

White: “My goals for the season is just to have fun and enjoy it. Since it is my senior year, I really want to do my best to not take things so seriously and just enjoy what I have while I have it.”

Wingspan: How has the team been preparing for this season?

White: “The team has been preparing since before school even started. With practice every morning and weightlifting, we have been really working hard for a successful season. Along with that, we have done some great team bonding activities to get good chemistry between the girls, which is the most important thing.”

Wingspan: Will you continue your soccer career outside of high school?

White: “Yes, I will be playing soccer at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and I could not be more excited. Talons up.”
