Redhawks will be leaving The Nest Friday at 4:25 p.m. and won’t return to campus until Dec. 2 as they take off for Thanksgiving Break.
For students, the break provides an opportunity to take a break from school and just unwind
“[My favorite part of Thanksgiving Break is j]ust relaxing, letting the stress of school go away,” junior Kaavya Raj said.
For teacher Hsi Hou Fernandez, however, Thanksgiving provides a chance to break from hectic schedules and bring the whole family together.
“It’s a time for me to spend time with my family, get together, y’know,” Fernandez said. “Especially if family’s spread out across the U.S., it’s just a time to get together, give thanks for having family, good health, stuff like that, and eat… Since my parents aren’t in town, or like in state, anymore, it’s nice to have them all like together at one place. I get to see all of my sisters and their kids and it’s just, y’know everybody has their busy schedules, and it’s just nice to get everybody all together.”
In addition to the family gatherings and meals, Thanksgiving Break also presents an opportunity to continue old traditions and make new memories with loved ones for teacher Elizabeth Evans.
“So we’re gonna have 18 of us at my mom’s house and we’re just having a big ole awesome meal and time together,” Evans said. “We eat pretty traditional Thanksgiving food and we always watch the Cowboys, although this year, they’re really bad, so maybe we won’t be as interested in that. And, I don’t know, we’ll probably get out and play pickleball.”
Students and teachers will return to campus on Dec. 2, a B-day for the last three weeks of the semester before winter break.
