Name: Aiden Decker
Grade: 10
Fine Art: Art ll Advanced
Years of experience: 13
Wingspan: What inspired you to do art?
Decker: “I really liked art as a little kid, so being that way I always leaned towards art and then when I came to high school I was like, ‘oh my gosh, they offer art! Let me join that!’ and then I got into Art ll Advanced and then I’m going into AP Art.”
Wingspan: What is your typical approach to art?
Decker: “My typical approach to art is semi-realism, so I go for realistic vibes but I also add very fantastical elements to it like horns. One of my characters is like a mermaid with an octopus bottom instead of a tail and another one is just a shapeshifter that has horns.”
Wingspan: What techniques do you use?
Decker: “None really, honestly. I don’t typically use the techniques my teacher shows us because I’d rather just do it for fun in my own way.”
Wingspan: What are some obstacles or challenges that you face?
Decker: “Definitely proportions. Proportions are so difficult to constantly work with and consistently making my characters look like my characters is very difficult as well.”
Wingspan: When did you start doing art?
Decker: “Since I was 3. I’ve been drawing since I was really young.”
Wingspan: How do you feel about the role of art in society?
Decker: “I think art plays a major role in society because without it, most people wouldn’t have a creative outlet. There’s also music and writing, but there wouldn’t be any visual types of media.”
Wingspan: What are you looking forward to in the future for art?
Decker. “I definitely want to continue doing art in the future and seek a career for it.”
