Students in Dance 2 1A are getting the chance to let their creativity shine with their choreography project which will be performed April 30 from 5-6 p.m. in the auditorium.
With this project, each student gets to partner up with whoever they want and create a dance that goes with a fun song of their choice
“So at the end of the year the students have a choreography project that’s 6-7 weeks long,” Dance 2 teacher Sydney Mooty said. “They get to create their own choreography, they pick their own dance genre and work together in a small group or do a solo and it’s a wonderful way for them to show what they learned throughout the year and their own personal choreography.”
Each student is working hard to get their dance all written down and perform it for many to see. It’s an opportunity for each of them to choose what they want to do with their project without worrying about anyone else telling them what goes.
“I’m looking forward to actually showing off my own dance,” sophomore Zoe Brown said. “It’s great because nobody needs to make it up for me and it gives me more freedom because I can do whatever I want and I can also pick whatever outfit I want to go with my dance.”
Each style that the students can pick up from helps them show how they want to express themselves. While the freedom of picking your own dance is relieving and fun, obstacles find a way to enter the ring and give them a challenge according to sophomore Alabhaya Agrawal.
“Since we’re a big group it’s mostly coordination,” sophomore Alabhaya Agrawal said. “Sometimes making choreography that everyone likes and agrees with and also choreography that everyone is capable of can be difficult because everyone’s body works in different ways but we manage to push through it and get it done.”
