Some graduating seniors throughout the district are receiving scholarship money from the Frisco Education Foundation (FEF) Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Comerica Center.
“The Frisco Education Foundation is proud to support these Frisco ISD students after graduation,” Frisco ISD Community Relations Asley Sine said in a recent district news release.
“These scholarships are a demonstration of our belief in their potential and their impact on our District. We can’t wait to see what they do next.”
Since 1999, more than 10,000 FISD seniors have been awarded more than $10.7 million in scholarship funds with senior Claire Graham one of the students receiving a scholarship this year.
“It was really cool! They actually email you before, so it was a really awesome moment when I opened up the email and saw that I had been selected,” Graham said. “The moment when I received the award was also really cool because you’re just standing there with your friends and it’s a really special moment.”
Some scholarships are funded by the FEF itself, but in addition to that, the FEF also facilitates the process of outside donors awarding scholarships to students for their involvement in an organization, youth group, PTA or PTSA, and more. Those students will receive their scholarships at separate events, such as year-end banquets.
¨I think it’s fair to recognize not just FEF, but also sponsors or organizations which helped facilitate the scholarship process, so I think it’s good to have different events,¨ senior Prakiriti Aswin said.
FEF night is a good opportunity to celebrate students for their academic achievements according to Aswin.
¨It’s a great way to recognize people for their academic achievements,¨ Aswin said. ¨Especially if they´ve worked really hard for it. You know, if they´ve put in the effort, then they deserve the public recognition. It’s also good for Frisco ISD to showcase the students for their talent and to showcase the students that are making great things happen.¨
