Student grades for the 2024-25 school year may have been locked in months ago, but the Frisco Independent School District is just now getting to evaluate its own performance for the school year with the release of the TEA Accountability Ratings on Friday with FISD earning an A rating.
“Frisco ISD has done well in the state’s accountability system for many years, and we’re proud to see that success continue,” Frisco ISD Superintendent, Dr. Mike Waldrip said in a district news release. “But we know there’s more to the story. Our local accountability system helps us look at the bigger picture of student success – the things a single state rating can’t show.”
The Texas Education Agency A-F Accountability Ratings is a system designed to hold school districts across the state accountable for student learning and performance by evaluating school districts through two key parameters: student achievement or progress, and “closing the gaps”. By employing tools such as results on state assessments, CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness), and graduation rates, among other metrics, the TEA develops individual scores for student achievement, student progress, and “closing the gaps”.
However, over the past few years following the COVID-19 pandemic, several controversies have risen over the TEA accountability system, leading to a court block on the release of ratings and what ended up as a six-year long hiatus on the release of accountability ratings starting in 2019.
That all changed with Friday’s rating release that saw 72 of the district’s 77 schools receiving an A or B, with five schools receiving a C. On campus, it’s an A rating for the Redhawks.
“It’s always great to receive that validation, but I think we all already know that Liberty is a special place,” assistant principal Richard Sabatier said. “I truly believe that we have some of the best teachers around, so it’s no surprise that others would also think that we’re doing a good job. A lot of what makes us great is intangible and goes beyond TEA’s ratings system, but good to know that we’re taking care of business.”
