With the start of the new school year, the Frisco Independent School District is back to business with their monthly school board meetings, starting Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Monday’s meeting will start with a closed session at 5:00 p.m. when board members are set to deliberate on the use of security devices and personnel, matters regarding students’ personally identifiable information, and matters regarding the duty of attorney, among other issues.
Afterwards, the board will reconvene in open session, host a public hearing regarding the 2025 tax rate, and recognize TIAA and the Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple as Partners in Education for their contributions to the School Supply and Backpack Drive. Following the recognition, the board – among other action items – is set to approve the 2025 property tax rate and approve a $250 stipend for teachers for teaching supplies.
The current property tax rate for FISD is $1.0252. The proposed tax rate for the upcoming year is $1.0194 for every $100 valuation, or a $0.0058 decrease in the tax rate. More information about the data and impact behind this proposed tax rate can be found here.
After six successful years of providing teachers with stipends for school supplies, FISD is looking to once again approve the stipend to financially support teachers as they purchase classroom materials, marking hopefully the seventh year in a row of teacher school supply stipends.
“The stipend is nice to have because it doesn’t feel like I’m spending my own money on classroom supplies,” AP Psychology teacher Tim Johannes said in a previous interview with Wingspan. “If I do want to buy the kids supplies, like an activity we do, I can use school money but it’s just easier.”
The board is also set to address several budget-related and vendor or purchase-related issues, and approve agreements with multiple partners, including the Plano Police Department. Additionally, the board will vote on new employment contracts, approve waivers for staff training and foreign exchange students, and discuss updated rules for the use of district and school facilities.
