Sophomores and juniors across Frisco ISD will be taking the PSAT Wednesday morning starting at 9 a.m.
For juniors, the test could potentially open the door to a world of college scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship program.
Senior Mason Classe, a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist award winner, believes taking the PSAT is an important thing, which opens doors to many opportunities.
“I think it’s always important to put your best foot forward in any of those exams you do. I mean, I knew going into it, there’s thousands of students that take it every year, so you’re competing with a really large pool of students, so I wasn’t expecting much from it,” Classe said. “But getting the opportunity to apply for a scholarship like that can open a ton of doors. It’s very exciting to be called out as a semi-finalist.”
For sophomores, the test presents a chance to gain exposure for the SAT.
“I think that the PSAT, honestly for me, isn’t that stressful because I know it’s just a practice,” sophomore Amrita Renganathan said. “But, I think it’s gonna be useful for me to see what to expect for the actual SAT. I think it’s a good way for students to find out where they are in terms of preparing for the SAT. And I know a lot of people can get like scholarships and awards from it, so I think it’s definitely effective.”
On the other hand, freshmen and seniors will have late arrival on Wednesday morning with classes resuming at 12:15 p.m.
“I think it’s good because I can sleep in and also having early release that means I won’t be at school very much of the day,” senior Jacquie Wilson said. “But, I think it’s good for everyone because we need some extra sleep every once in a while.”
PSAT testing rooms will be emailed to students and will be posted in the rotunda.
Wednesday will be an A-day and all students will be in their 2nd period from 12:15-12:45 p.m. Wednesday followed by a normal A-day schedule.
