Halloween is Friday and students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costumes to school which is a good move by campus leadership.
This is a great idea because students can team up with their friends for group costumes which is a good bonding experience. Also, if a student chooses to wear a costume of their favorite character from a show then that allows others to learn more about them and what kind of person they are. Also, getting compliments from peers in school about your costume is confidence boosting especially if you worked hard on what you planned to wear.
Students who dress up may see the world from their chosen dress up character’s POV. This creates a more creative atmosphere and can even make learning more exciting. It also builds more community in school and helps establish connections within students.
If a student meets someone who has a similar interest based on their costume, they could build a friendship. Imagine going to school thinking no one has any idea what your character is from but someone else walked into school thinking that as well. You see that person in the hall or class dressed up as the same or different character from the show you like and then realize you have more in common with people than you may have believed.
Something cool to add to the school day would be: during advisory in the second period, students in their class decide who is the best dressed and then the teacher submits a photo to the office. Each class does this and then the front office group decides the top three best costumes and those classes get prizes or dojo points. This could also be a district wide contest where schools compete against each other and the winner is announced on social media. This could encourage more students to dress up and even take their costumes to the next level to increase participation and spirit.
