With several inches of snow, sleet, and ice still blanketing North Texas, Frisco ISD announced on Wednesday that it would remain closed on Thursday. The district also announced that if the waiver they filed with the Texas Education Agency for missed school days is approved, no make-up days will be required. However, if the waiver is not approved, the district will communicate which make-up day will be used.
In an email sent out on Wednesday at 5:12 p.m., the district said:
Frisco ISD staff and parents,
Frisco ISD buildings will be closed for instruction and business on Thursday, January 29, 2026, due to sustained poor road conditions throughout the district and in communities where many of our staff live.
Although temperatures have begun to rise, significant ice remains on parking lots, sidewalks, bus loading zones, and campus entryways, particularly in shaded areas where melting has been limited. Many roads around the District are still experiencing slick spots.
These conditions create safety concerns for families transporting students, for student drivers, and also for staff commuting from across the district and surrounding communities, many of which have also canceled classes due to similar conditions.
After continued monitoring and consultation, and with careful consideration of campus conditions, emergency response access, and transportation safety, the District determined that conditions have not improved enough to ensure a safe return. This decision was made with the safety of our students, families, and employees as our highest priority.
We recognize that weather-related closures can create challenges for families and staff, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.
Will we need to make up the day?
Governor Abbott declared a state of emergency prior to the winter storm impacting the state, and Frisco ISD will file a waiver for the missed school day with the Texas Education Agency.
- If the waiver is approved, no make-up days will be required. You may access the 2025–26 student calendar for reference.
- If the waiver is not approved, the District will communicate which make-up day will be used.
More information about weather-related closings in Frisco ISD is available on the District website.
Thank you for your continued support as we prioritize safety across our community.
