With several inches of snow, sleet, and ice still blanketing North Texas now finally melted, Frisco ISD announced on Thursday that it would reopen on Friday and that students and staff will not need to make up Jan. 26–27, while the district seeks a waiver for Jan. 28–29 and will announce a make-up day only if required.
In an email sent out on Thursday at 3:11 p.m., the district said:
Frisco ISD staff and parents,
Frisco ISD schools will be open for instruction on Friday, January 30, 2026. Throughout the day, maintenance, custodial, and administrative teams have been on-site at every campus to ensure buildings are safe, warm, and ready to welcome students back.
While main roads are clear, ice may remain on north-facing sidewalks and in shaded areas. Please exercise caution during your morning commute and while walking on campus.
Key reminders for Friday:
- Parents of secondary students, please ensure your child’s Chromebook is fully charged.
- High school parents, please ensure students are prepared with their materials for a “B” day.
- Transportation: District buses will run on their normal schedules; however, please anticipate slight delays as drivers prioritize safety on neighborhood streets.
- Activities: All before- and after-school activities and athletic events will proceed as scheduled unless otherwise communicated by your specific campus or coach.
Make-up days and waivers: Frisco ISD staff and students will not need to make up January 26 and 27. The District is currently applying for a waiver for January 28 and 29. If a make-up day becomes necessary in the future, we will notify the community immediately with the designated date.
We will continue to monitor conditions overnight. If a change to this plan becomes necessary, you will be notified via email, text, and phone, and a notice will be posted to social media, the District website, and friscoisd.org/alerts by 5:30 a.m.
