Watching movies is one of my favorite forms of entertainment, and one of my favorite parts of watching movies is how they make moments that actually happen to many real people feel like something so much more cinematic. Movies add beauty to moments that are otherwise thought of as normal human interactions, and part of the way they do that is through background music.
Imagine if instead of waking up to an alarm, we could wake up to the strumming of an electric guitar to bring some energy to the start of our day. It would add so much more meaning to our daily routines. Personally, if I got to wake up to “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears for Fears for a day, I would be so much more inclined to try and make my day worthwhile.
The way I yearn to make my life feel cinematically appealing is definitely part of the reason I associate songs with specific visual situations. If I hear a song, my first thought usually isn’t “Oh, the guitar in this song sounds really good,” it’s usually “This sounds like driving around at sunrise.”
Background music could also help express emotions we sometimes struggle to explain. A slow, thoughtful melody might play during reflective moments, while a dramatic, reckless song might start when you’re about to do something you know you shouldn’t. Even in upsetting situations, a soft, slow song could make the sadness just a little bit more bearable.
If life had background music, we might start noticing our stories more. Each day would feel like a chapter, each challenge a turning point, and each small victory becomes more special with a background tune to make you appreciate it more. It would allow us to make a story of our lives rather than making it feel like something we just have to deal with every day.
Music allows me to notice little things so much more than I would if it was just a normal day without any positivity emphasizing factors. All it takes for the same street I’ve driven down to suddenly seem more special is a little bit of music.
While life is great as is, having its own soundtrack with a specific song for every emotional situation sure would make it easier to enjoy life. Adding emotional significance onto moments that wouldn’t otherwise be appreciated is something that would be so much cooler than going about our boring lives without natural entertainment.
