A global survey by the Digital Education Council found that 86% of students use AI in their education, with 54% using it weekly and nearly one in four using it daily.

The use of artificial intelligence, or AI, has proven to be influential, both positive and negative, to many industries. With various career paths, including those taught at Frisco ISD’s CTE Center, this technology has the potential to challenge and enhance professional fields.

“AI, in regard to graphic design, has had both positive and negative impacts,” graphic design teacher Mitchel Reeder said. “I think it has created a false sense in the community where people think that we don’t need graphic designers anymore.”

While AI has its benefits, it is important to consider the consequences of dependence and ignorance. 

“I think there is definitely an increase in misinformation using fake videos and things like that on social media,” political science teacher Corey Houchin said. “I think AI has made things more efficient, but the impact in our industry is more behind the scenes. I think, in government and overall, there is the risk of becoming reliant on AI and lessening creativity because of that.”

However, in many fields, such as medicine, this technology has proven to be beneficial and even an improvement to operations.

“I think there’s been a lot of benefits of AI, especially when you’re dealing with medicine,” pathophysiology teacher Kristi Garrison said. “There have been improvements in things like pattern recognition, making diagnoses, analyzing data–there’s a lot of good use for AI.”

For aerospace engineering teacher Robert Dahl, the use of AI has the potential to save both time and money in his field.

“As an engineering teacher, specifically aerospace, I think the effect is mostly on programming right now,” Dahl said. “AI is definitely having an impa

ct on computer programming which has  affected lower level jobs in the field. It’s potentially going to affect the industry as a whole and be able to create des

igns of products quicker and cheaper than a person can.”

When it comes to dealing with artificial intelligence, the technology has proven to be most beneficial in collaboration with human thought, not instead of it.  

“It has enhanced the industry in a lot of ways,” Garrison said. “I think, just in general, there is a potential for people to use AI rather than thought processes which can be detrimental.”
